President's Message

From Martha Malone

Greetings friends and fellow members. I am honored to be serving as your president for 2012. Thank you for the opportunity, and for your vote of confidence. I will do my best to make this a fun, successful year for us all.

First of all, I would like to thank Sarah Poole for the great job she did during her two years in office. Among all of the projects she took on, her major ones were spearheading the project to rid us of the beaver problem, the new gate, the water runoff problem at the waterfront and to finish our beautiful clubhouse with the installation of our bookshelves and fireplace. Sarah has served on the board and as an officer for the past 7+ years.

Thanks to those of you who have served on the board and will be finishing your term this year: Gil Jones, Janet Jones, and Terry Wright. We appreciate your service and commitment. Thanks to those of you who will be serving with me in 2012.

I used to say that summer didn’t get too hot for me but this year, it finally did. That was one hot summer! Thank goodness Labor Day weekend brought our blessed rains and cooler temps overnight. I am constantly reminded of how blessed we all are to live, rest and relax in such a wonderful place. CFBCC is truly a sanctuary for us all . . . folks, flora, fish and fowl. Having said that, please remember that it takes the efforts of all of us to maintain the beauty and comfort we enjoy here. While we pay for mowing, leaf removal, trash pickup, etc., I ask each of you to go the extra mile in keeping our grounds and common areas beautiful.

The holidays are just around the corner, but I hope you will stop and smell the roses and enjoy the beauty of fall at CFBCC. I look forward to another great year in 2012.

Outgoing President's Letter

Dear Membership:

Congratulations to Martha Malone, our new President. As I leave office I want to thank you for your support the past two years. We have suffered through long, hot summers, 2 snows and a broken gate; our neighbors have moved out and new ones have moved in; we have lost several members. Yet this beautiful place still remains home to many of us. The monthly dinner meetings have been fun and, for the most part, well attended. It’s an excellent way for members to get to know each other. Your participation is needed to keep CFBCC the unique community it has been since 1940.

A special thanks to the Board of Directors who served and have made decisions which may not have always been easy. I greatly appreciated that each of you gave your opinions and responded to all issues. The membership vote to reduce the board from 10 to 6 members should insure continued full board participation in all matters.

CFBCC is a special place and I hope it will remain so. Our rules are designed to make living and visiting here safe and clean. They apply to every member and any guests. Please continue to be respectful of all property and keep our waterfront clear of trash. The clubhouse now has a fireplace for winter enjoyment of the lake. The waterfront continues to be used by many. Enjoy a walk along the shoreline on Daddy Black Trail which extends from the boat docks to the area at the Clint Norman house (at the end of Trout Trail)...about 1/2 mile. It’s a great place to see birds and I understand the fishing is good also.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and Blessed Christmas. I look forward to seeing all of you in the months to come.

Sarah

  • Danny Davis Landscaping will remove leaves from the waterfront and old clubhouse. If club members want their leaves removed, Danny can be contacted to make arrangements.
  • Roger Lovelady will build a platform step at the bottom of the clubhouse steps to cover the large tree roots growing there. The board’s concern is that someone will sustain an injury stepping down off the steps on the uneven ground.
  • Justin McCosh will continue the landscaping project at the parking lot in November.
  • Greg Hollis will install the rails at the day dock as soon as the water recedes.
  • Tree trimming party will be held the Sunday after Thanksgiving at 4:00 PM at the clubhouse.

Vacations

Mike and Molly Rich recently vacationed in Scotland.
Joe and Barbara Brogdon just returned from a vacation in Greece.
Jerele & Elizabeth Neeld visited London and Rome in September.
All report that they had a great time!

Bereavement

Our sympathy is extended to Dr. Joe Brogdon and his family in the death of his father, Dr. Joseph Brogdon, Sr., who died October 21st from a head injury that resulted from a fall.

Leaf Removal

Danny Davis Landscaping, who did the Club leaf removal last year (blew and vacuumed) will be available to do it again this year and for individuals as well. If you would like to have Danny to remove your leaves, please contact him at:
423-653-6081 or at davisoutdoormaintenance@gmail.com.

Tree Removal

CFBCC will be having a dead tree removed at the waterfront. If you have tree cutting or trimming that needs to be done, please mark your trees and contact Martha Malone. We will be obtaining estimates in the near future. Perhaps we can negotiate a better price for all of us if we combine our needs and have the tree company make one trip.
